Lot Essay

This picture can be compared stylistically to a view of The Piazza S. Marco looking East by Antonio Joli listed by Manzelli as being in a private collection (M. Manzelli, Antonio Joli, Venice, 1999, pl. XXXVI). However, in the present picture the new pavement of the square, designed by Andrea Tirali and finished in 1734, is not depicted.
