Lot Essay

Falguière's full-length plaster version of Diana preparing to shoot an arrow was exhibited at the Salon in 1882, with the marble version following in 1887. The figure proved to be extremely popular and was edited in bronze reductions by Thiébaut Frères. In addition, Falguière capitalised on the success of Diana by excerpting the bust from the figure and having it cast also by Thiébaut, as here.
