Conceived as the centrepiece of a grand monument to the majesty, strength, and serene beauty of the labourer, the original model for the present bronze made it's début at the Salon in 1902. Also known as 'Le Travail', the figure measured 1.97 metres high, and was subsequently transferred to the Louvre in 1905. Susse Frères edited this popular subject in four smaller sizes, ranging from 30 to 111cm. in height.
