Bob Wooler had arranged the gig through his friend, the promoter Brian Kelly. Amazing as it may seem now, the Beatles were not that well known in North Liverpool at this time, the late booking meant their appearance was not fully advertised, and consequently few people were aware of who they were. Seventeen year old David Forshaw was in the audience that night. In The Complete Beatles Chronicle, Mark Lewishon's listing for 27th December 1960 states If any one live performance in the Beatles' career could be described as the turning point, it would be this.... Forshaw, impressed by the groups' impact on the audience went backstage, introduced himself, and promptly booked them for three appearances at his venue, St John's Hall, Bootle, known as The Blue Penguin Club. The third and final booking, for a fee of £25.00, was for 30th July, 1962.
