A SET OF SIX REGENCY BRASS-INLAID ROSEWOOD DINING-CHAIRS
Each with curved tablet back inlaid with scrolling foliage and with reeded scrolled toprail, above a horizontal splat and padded seat covered in buttoned green material, on sabre legs, later drop-in seat frame, five stamped 'JW', front seat rail of one inscribed in ink 'B.i.x.' (6)

Lot Essay

The Grecian-scrolled chairs are 'buhl-inlaid' in the Louis Quatorze manner that became fashionable during George IV's Regency. Around 1820 a suite of buhl-inlaid rosewood furniture was supplied for the drawing room at Tatton Park, Cheshire by Gillow of London and Lancaster (S. Bourne et al, Gillow Chairs and Fashion, Blackburn, 1991, p.33).
