The Grecian-scrolled chairs are 'buhl-inlaid' in the Louis Quatorze manner that became fashionable during George IV's Regency. Around 1820 a suite of buhl-inlaid rosewood furniture was supplied for the drawing room at Tatton Park, Cheshire by Gillow of London and Lancaster (S. Bourne et al, Gillow Chairs and Fashion, Blackburn, 1991, p.33).
