Lot Essay

It is highly unusual to find enamelled ceramic Buddhist images of such large size. No other examples appear to have been published although two smaller famille rose seated figures of Amitayus (the Buddha of Infinite Life) have been sold: the first from the J. M. Hu Collection, sold in New York, 4 June 1985, lot 70 (29.2 cm. high); and the other sold in Hong Kong, 29 October 2001, lot 606 (29.5 cm. high).
