Engraved emblematic frontispiece, 7 engraved plates, one double-page, 6 double-page engraved maps. (Occasional light spotting, neat repair to lower blank margin of Ggg1.) Contemporary half calf, spine gilt (rubbed, spine slightly chipped at head and foot). Provenance: Grosherzogliche Bibliothek Neustrelitz (early cancelled ink stamp on verso of title).

A fine copy of the first edition in German of this famous early work on the fisheries and whaling grounds off Greenland and the northern Atlantic."Zorgdrager's work is by far the most important of the early authorities on the Northern Whalefishery" (Allen). The work was first published in Dutch in Amsterdam in 1720, and the present edition includes maps of the North Polar region, Greenland, Iceland, Spitzbergen, Jan-Mayen Island and 'Nova Zembla'.
