The sitter was the only daughter of Robert Rochfort, 1st Earl of Belvedere, and his wife Mary, eldest daughter of Richard, 2nd Viscount Molesworth, and the granddaughter of George Rochfort (for whom see the previous lot). She married Brinsley Butler, later 2nd Earl of Lanesborough, in 1754, by whom she had eight children. On the death of her brother George Rochfort, 2nd Earl Belvedere (for whom see the following lot), without surviving issue, in 1814, she inherited Belvedere House, Co. Westmeath, a small palladian villa which had been built by her father, and a considerable portion of the Belvedere estates. The house and estates were inherited by her Grandson Brinsley, 4th Earl of Lanesborough on her death and then passed to his cousin Charles Brinsley Marlay (1831-1912) in 1847. Her husband was Member of Parliament for Co. Cavan and a staunch supporter of the government and the Primate personally celebrated his marriage to Lord Belvedere's only daughter. After his death in 1779 she then married John King, a Jewish moneylender.
