Lot Essay

This composition was one of several designs for a series of posters done to commemorate an evening at the Stray Dog cabaret in St. Petersberg in 1913. The event was a directed by a close friend of Sonia Delaunay, Mr. Smirnoff, who delivered a lecture on "The Simultaneous" in to an audience that included leading Russian artists and intellectuals. The project marked a new, completely modernist approach with the artist's works for advertising and graphic arts.
