Note:
Tong Kai was a native of Huating (modern Shanghai). He was an excellent painter of birds and flowers, following the style of Song masters. He also painted portraits, and did one for Dong Qichang (1555-1636). For the protrait, Dong wrote a horizontal panel for Tong Kai's studio.
