A GROUP OF TEN CUNEIFORM CLAY TABLETS
3RD-2ND MILLENNIUM B.C.
Comprising a complete Old Babylonian well-fired tablet, 17 lines of Akkadian text, a private contract concerning 58 sheep, with multiple clear impressions of the cylinder seal of Gemen-Asalluhi, the priestess of Marduk and Zarpanitum, dating to the reign of Samsuditana, 1625-1595 B.C., 1¾ x 3 1/8 in. (4.5 x 7.8) cm.; another, 14 lines of Akkadian cuneiform, an economic text concerning sheep for a festival for Ninlil and Ninurta, reign of Samsuditana, 1625-1595 B.C., 1 7/8 x 2 7/8 in. (4.8 x 7.3 cm.); a tablet, 23 lines, a legal document with 6 witnesses, itemizing a quantity of barley, silver and troops, fattened oxen and sheep in an estate on the banks of the Euphrates, signed with cylinder seal impressions, dated to the year the wall of Uruk was built, 4.4 x 6.8 x 1.9 cm.; an Ur III tablet, 8 lines of text, from Lagash, 3.2 x 3.9 x 1.3 cm.; another Ur III tablet, 5 lines, a payment for 79 gur of barley, 3.6 x 3 x 1.6 cm., both circa 2050 B.C.; another tablet, 15 lines, a receipt for 5 gur of barley, 4.1 x 4.7 x 1.8 cm., circa 1750 B.C.; another, 20 lines of Akkadian cuneiform text, a legal document which confirms that Iluninum has entrusted 23 animals to the shepherd called Belmanu, son of Tari-bum, who is henceforth responsible for them, with good seal impressions of the parties involved, reign of Ammisaduqa, 1646-1626 B.C., 4.6 x 8.1 x 2.3 cm.; another tablet, 17 lines of text, a contract concerning lifestock for the festivals of Ninlil and Ninurta, with seal impressions, some encrustation, reign of Ammisaduqa, 1646-1626 B.C., 5 x 7.7 x 2.4 cm.; a tablet, 16 lines of text, a contract concerning livestock delivered for offerings, fine seal impressions, reverse encrusted, reign of Samsuditana, 1625-1595 B.C., 4.4 x 7.2 x 2.4 cm.; and an Early Dynastic tablet with 4 columns of economic text, itemizing objects of copper by weight and wood and other things, circa 2550 B.C., 7.4 x 7.6 x 2.4 cm.
