A ROMAN HOLLOW GOLD INTAGLIO RING
CIRCA 3RD CENTURY A.D.
The shoulders with raised and chased tripartite leaf motif, the bezel set with oval cornelian intaglio of Aphrodite, semi-naked, holding out tresses of her hair, ¾ in. (2 cm.) diam.; an Early Christian gold ring with fine hoop broadening to flat oval bezel with engraved cross motif, ¾ in. (2 cm.) diam.; a bronze alloy betrothal intaglio ring with polygonal hoop, ridged and beaded shoulders, the bezel set with truncated cornelian intaglio showing joined hands, 5/8 in. (1.5 cm.) diam.; and another with octagonal bezel with three lines of Greek incised lettering, 7/8 in. (2.3 cm.) diam., all Late Roman-Early Byzantine, 3rd-6th Century A.D. (4)
