Lot Essay

Cf. J. Bourriau, Pottery from the Nile Valley before the Arab Conquest, Cambridge, 1981, p. 26, no. 30. Although there is a doubt whether the birds are ostriches or flamingos, it is possible that flamingos did grace the lush swamps and marshes of the Delta in Predynastic times when the climate was different.
