Each upholstered in floral patterned pearl-grey silk, with an arched padded back, arms and seat, with carved foliate decoration to the arms on square chamfered legs joined by an H-stretcher, restorations to one front leg and stretcher (2)

Lot Essay

While the chairs' foliated and hollowed arm-supports are a popular Irish feature, their frames have serpentined brackets which are also found on Irish chairs, such as that from Crow Castle, Fermanagh discussed by J.Kirk, 'American Furniture and the British Tradition to 1830', New York, 1982 (no.994).
