The varigated gray eared rectangular top above a conforming case with three graduated drawers flanked by rounded and fluted corners on turned tapering legs

Lot Essay

Although Jean-François Dubut was an ébéniste, he died in 1778, which is stylistically too early for this commode, and his stamp is also different. It is more likely, therefore, that this Dubut stamp is that of an as yet unrecorded 19th Century retailer.
