MITCHELL, Margaret. Five typed letters signed ("Margaret") to Hershel Brickell, Atlanta, 19 March, 5 October, 22 October, 1 December 1938 and 1 August 1939. Together 8 pages, small folio, single-spaced, on her stationery with name embossed in blue at top of each sheet (black on the last), five stamped, addressed envelopes.
19 March 1938: mentioning a trip to Florida and Marjorie Rawlings: "While I do not imagine I will be doing any more writing, I do not want to give anyone the chance to hold me up on a plagiarism charge... No, I hadn't heard the good news about Marjorie Rawlings' new novel, but I am very happy to know that the Book-of-the-Month Club has chosen it..." 5 October 1938: discussing Brickell's impending visit to Atlanta: "We are expecting, during the next six weeks or more everyone from John's mother to Thomas Dixon, author of 'The Clansman.'"22 October 1938: mentioning the poor health of her father and Marian Sims' "Memo": "...which I liked very much..." 1 December 1938: thanking him and his wife Norma for the bottle of Burgundy sent for her birthday and Marjorie Rawlings: "We had a fine letter from Marjorie Rawlings, inviting us to drop in on her... It must have been obvious how much we liked her." 1 August 1939: mentioning recent trouble with her ear and the premier of Gone with the Wind: "The approaching premier of 'Gone With the Wind,' which has been promised to Atlanta, seems to have stirred up the public all over again and that makes for added difficulties.
