Provenance
Given by the sitter to Colonel Grey in 1847 after a 2 month tour in England together, the Colonel having refused to accept a presentation snuff-box.

Lot Essay

Grand Duke Constantine Nikolaevich of Russia, second son of Emperor Nicholas I of Russia (see lot 164) and younger brother of Emperor Alexander II, was a General Admiral of the Russian Navy. In 1848, he married Alexandra Yossifovna, daughter of Duke Joseph of Saxe-Altenburg and had issue.
