A GEORGE III IVORY PATCH-BOX SET WITH A SILHOUETTE
circa 1795/1800, the silhouette by John Miers (?1758-1821), signed under truncation 'Miers'
Flattened octagonal ivory box, the lid set with an oval silhouette painted in black on ivory with the profile of a gentleman to the left, his hair tied in a pigtail, wearing a lace jabot, under glass and within a gold mount, gold pushpiece and hinge, the inside of the lid fitted with a mirror, the base lined with coral-coloured velvet
