A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX
by François Joanin, marked, Geneva, circa 1780/1800, with prestige marks, later struck with the Dutch warranty mark for 14-carat gold works of foreign fabrication 1953-1955
Oval box, the cover and base enamelled in translucent night-blue on a radiating sunburst guilloché ground bordered by gold paillons and white enamel bands, the sides similarly enamelled on a ground of horizontal wavy engine-turning and divided by four engine-turned and blue enamelled side pilasters, the lid centred by an oval reserve within a gold husk paillon border painted en grisaille with seated young lovers against a mossy and tree background
