A Continental large gold-mounted garnet, enamelled and gem-set pendant vinaigrette
possibly German, middle to second half of the 19th century
Vase-shaped, the lobed garnet body with gold strapwork interstices issuing from lions' masks and enamelled in orange, blue and white, the body and rising domed cover applied with strapwork enamelled in shades of blue, and applied with turquoise stones to the cover and lower knop, the cover with pointed finial, the base with a faceted glass drop enhanced by four rose-cut diamond-set leaves and four dark blue enamelled lotus leaves, the sides of the body applied with cast amorini terminals holding the ends of a suspension chain with blue enamelled lotus and pearl drops, the chain suspended from a serpent-form gold ring with lotus clasp and blue enamelled and pearl drop enhancer, the detachable grille a quatrefoil of scrolling foliage with vase-shaped finial handle
