Lot Essay
Inspired by the richness of folk art and traditions, Volpi embedded his work with a pureness of shape and color that intended to erase the distinction between object and figure in the finished painting. He thus employed tempera, a medium that allowed the gesture to become a constitutive element of the composition while underlining the absolute value of color. Likewise, in tune with musical, poetic and philosophical movements of the time, Volpi turned to the creative power of memory, its fusion and dislocation as primary referent for the creation of the painterly composition. Thus his fachadas are more and more orderly abstract color constructions.
