Lot Essay

The cabinet is the first and smallest of the project Il Mobile Infinito (Unfinished Furniture), organised by Studio Alchimia in 1981. Objects by approximately thirty artists and designers were used in a performance by the Magazini Criminali of the Faculty of Architecture in Milano.
The cabinet was designed by Mendini, the backside and the rightside were painted by Mimmo Paladino after paintings by Edward Munch (The Cry and Moonshine). The legs and ballfeet were designed by Denis Santachiara, the inside was decorated by Bruno Munari and Gio Ponti. The doorknob was designed by Ugo la Pietra and the magnetic decoration on the door was made after a design by Mendini himself.
Another undecorated example was executed for the Unfinished Furniture Project in Tokyo, 1985.

In a letter to the collector on 7 November 1984, Mendini states L'Angoliera is the original prototype from his Oggetti Senza Tempo collection.
