'Vaarwel Marie, ik moet je nu verlaten,
Ik heb getekend bij die zeesoldaten,
Ik moet gaan varen langs de woeste zee,
Vaarwel, Marie, je kan niet met me mee.
's Nachts zul je in je bedstee om me treuren,
't Is beroerd, maar ach! 't moet gebeuren,
Vergeet mij niet en blijf mij eeuwig trouw,
Vaarwel Marie, je wordt nog eens mijn vrouw.
