Lot Essay

As an art student in Paris, Lawton Parker embraced Impressionism early in his career. Later, as a member of a group of American artists who painted in Giverny near the home of Claude Monet, Parker had the inspiration and the freedom to explore Impressionism on his own terms. The Bather is a beautiful example of the artist's work demonstrating Parker's use of pure color and a rapid brush to create a delicate painting with jewel-like qualities.
