A ROMAN MARBLE FIGURE OF PAPOSILENUS
Circa 2nd Century A.D.
The corpulent figure originally standing with his weight on his right leg, his left leg relaxed, depicted nude but for an animal skin tied diagonally over his raised left shoulder, his right shoulder lowered, the hairy body with sagging breasts and paunchy stomach, the navel indicated, the head lowered and turned slightly to his right, the bald pate crowned with a fillet of ivy and berries, the long shaggy beard and mustache deeply drilled, with stern expression and furrowed brow, the convex eyes unarticulated, the mouth open with the corners drilled
