Lot Essay

In 1950 Seago sailed his boat, Endeavour to Belgium and painted a small number of works at Ostend. James Reid (Edward Seago, The Landscape Art, London, 1991, p. 207) comments, 'He concentrated on the harbour, painting views of the inner basin, of shrimp boats returning to port or at anchor by the quays ... Sailing vessels tied up in the harbour became themes for works largely executed en plein air'.
