MANUSCRIPT MAP -- "Hydrographical Map of that Part of the Russian Empire which lies between the Baltic and the Black and the Caspian Seas Composed at the Department of Water Communications in the Year 1801 by Order of Alexander the First, Emperor of all the Russians," [no place:] "Composed at the Department of Water Communications by Counsellor Sigismundus and Actuary Schelehoff", 1801-02. Large hand-coloured manuscript (?and part engraved) map on several sheets mounted on linen including "Plan of the Canal of Peter the Great at Cronstadt, taken in 1802" to a scale of 90 Sagens to 630 English feet (soiled and frayed at foot with some loss, some staining), approximately 1,360 x 2,440mm., rolling into presentation box. Provenance: "Hydrographical Map of Russia and the Docks at Cronstadt presented by His Imperial Majesty, Alexander the First, to William Vaughan, Esquire, 1802," inscription on lid of box.
