ELEAZER ALBIN (fl.1713-1759)
A Natural History of Spiders and other Curious Insects, London: J. Tilly for R. Montagu [and others], 1736. 4° (285 x 218mm.). Ruled in red throughout, hand-coloured engraved frontispiece depicting Albin on a horse and surrounded by insects and arachnids, 53 hand-coloured plates by Smith, Basire and others. (Some offsetting). Contemporary mottled calf, gilt spine, wide border composed of small tools round sides (slightly worn, upper cover becoming loose). Provenance: Duke of Marlborough (his crest in a panel of spine, ducal coronet above letters EB on covers and his engraved shelf and case label inside front cover); Johannis Hus (bookplate).
