Lot Essay

Theodore Lambert was a creator of jewellery and metal furniture who was influenced by Japanese art at the turn of the century. He studied the designs of Japanese sword guards and textile stencils, and published a book on design taken from Japanese stencils, Motifs decoratifs tires de pochoirs japonais (Paris, 1909)

A similar example is illustrated in Cleveland Museum of Art, Rutgers University Art Gallery and Walters Art Gallery, Japonisme (Ohio, 1975), pl. 54, p. 154
