The Helmet Bowl Momoyama Period (Late 16th Century); the Armour Largely Edo Period (Early-Mid 19th Century)
Comprising an interesting russet-iron fifty-two plate sujibachi [ridged bowl] reduced in height from the original giving it an elegant shape, the signature obliterated during the conversion, the interior of the bowl with gold-lacquered prayers and invocations on every plate, the black-lacquered iron itamono komanju jikoro [small rounded neck-guard] laced in dark blue sugake-odoshi [spaced lacing], with an associated gilded wood shishi maedate [lion forecrest]; the russet-iron menpo [mask] well formed, with a two-tier yodarekake [throat-guard] of black-lacquered leather hon-kozane [true lamellae]

The fine dark-blue hon-kebiki odoshi [close-laced] nimai tachi-do [two-piece cuirass] of iron hon-kozane [true lamellae], black-lacquered and mounted with shakudo [a copper-gold alloy] and bearing the mon [crest] of a branch of the Makino family of daimyo [feudal lords], signed in red lacquer Iwai Sadahachi; matching the do a pair of miniature sendan no ita [protection for the cords of the do], a pair of o-sode [large shoulder-guards], black-lacquered iron shinogote [sleeves] and leather kawara haidate [thigh-guards] associated with a pair of russet-iron Bishamon suneate [shin-guards]
