Signed Koma Kansai, Edo Period (Early 19th Century)
Lenticular with integral himotoshi; black lacquer ground densely sprinkled with gold hirame verging on nashiji; decoration in gold, aokin, silver and red bold takamaki-e, with shell mosaic and gold togidashi-e; compartments and risers gold nashiji, shoulders and rims gold fundame; signed in gold hiramaki-e on the base Koma Kansai; openwork ivory ojime
One side with a crow tengu with enormous wings, flying over pine trees with a bottle-gourd in its left hand; the reverse with pine trees
