A Berlin topographical cabaret
Circa 1780, blue sceptre marks, various indistinct Pressnummern to cups and one saucer, Dreher's // to sugar-bowl and cream-jug, / to footrim of teapot and to hot-water jug, incised 2 and Pressnummer 1 to tea-caddy
Painted and stippled with extensive distant views of a city in a river landscape with figures and buildings in the foreground, and with further views of buildings and churches with figures at rural pursuits in similar wooded river landscapes, within richly-gilt double line and dot cartouches gilt with flowers and entwined with berried foliage swags and flowers and with scattered moths, the gilt rims with entwined laurel-leaves and the covers with yellow and puce flower finials, comprising:

A bullet-shaped teapot and cover with gilt foliage-moulded spout and scroll handle
A baluster hot-water jug and cover
A barrel-shaped milk-jug and cover
A circular sugar-bowl and cover
An arched rectangular tea-caddy and cover
Two teacups and saucers
A shaped oval tray with gilt rocaille handles
(tray cracked across in two places and with areas of restoration, other chips, damages and losses)
The tray 16¼ in. (41.3 cm.) wide

Almost certainly John Alexander, 4th Marquess of Bath (1831-1896), Longleat, Wiltshire and by descent at Longleat.
