A LOUIS XV ENAMELLED TWO-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH A PORTRAIT MINIATURE
by Joseph-Etienne Blerzy (fl. 1768-1806), marked, Paris, 1775/1776, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache 1774-1780, struck with inventory no. 316, the enamel portrait by Jean Petitot (1607-1691), circa 1670
Oblong box, the cover, side and base panels enamelled with translucent crimson on a coin guilloché ground, within narrow fluted gold and broad opaque white enamel borders, the cover centred by an oval enamel plaque depicting a young gentleman, facing left in long curly brown wig, white lace lavallière, blue silk-lined moss-green gown with gold lacings, within a dotted gold mount and matted gold band chased with stylized laurel and surmounted by a ribbon cresting, the four rectangular side wall pilasters adorned with chased gold laurel hung from studs, the matted gold borders chased with stylized acanthus
