The DB series of Aston Martins are regarded by many as the last 'true' Astons setting new standards in grand touring while still offering fine performance and handling in the true Aston Martin tradition.
The DB6, announced in October 1965, was a very significant development over the preceding DB5 model. One major difference was in its size, the car having a longer wheelbase and higher roof-line, substantially increasing the interior space. A Kamm tail gave a very neat appearance to the rear of the car, whilst aerodynamic lift was reduced, thus lowering high speed understeer. Weight was also saved by using box section steel in place of Superleggera tubes, thus also improving torsional rigidity.
Power came from a 3,995cc 6-cylinder twin-cam engine derived from the DB5 unit and developed 282bhp at 5,500rpm in standard form, and 325bhp at 5,750rpm with the optional Vantage specifications. The DB6 thus represents the final development of the much-exalted David Brown series cars, and incorporated a number of changes to make it the most refined and usable of the DB series.
This Vantage is offered for sale from the family of its second owner. It has been cared for over many years, and a file of invoices for work carried out during this ownership includes some at the Newport Pagnell factory. More recently it has been serviced and worked on at G. Whitehouse Autos. Ltd. with a new four speed ZF gearbox fitted. It is also sold with standard Aston Martin manuals.
