A rare Merrythought 'Punkinhead' teddy bear
with brown mohair, clear and black glass eyes, inset velvet muzzle, black stitched nose and mouth, golden mohair inner ears and chest, long white mohair on scalp, swivel neck, jointed limbs with felt pads, velvet feet, original yellow felt shorts and label on foot --15¼in. (39cm.) high, circa 1951 (feet pads split and restitched, slight overall wear)

Lot Essay

Punkinhead was made exclusively as the mascot for Eaton's Department store in Toronto, Canada. He became the hero of several storybooks, as well as the leader of the annual Santa Claus parade.
