a Bing cream mohair dog with brown and black glass eyes, black mohair ears, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, swivel head, jointed legs and lithographed tinplate tag 'I am Caesar' --10½in. (27cm.) long (missing collar, some wear and some repaired holes in two legs) and a similar Farnell example with orange and black glass eyes, leather collar --11½in. (29cm.) long (slight wear)

Lot Essay

Caesar, the favourite pet of Edward VII, who endeared himself to the public when he followed his master's coffin. This was a very popular toy in England, and it is interesting that in this sale we have an example by Steiff, Bing and Farnell. See lot 58.
