Each oblong, with gadrooned borders and with shell and foliage angles, the domed covers with similar borders, a plain gadrooned band above, the leaf-capped reeded handle on a scrolling foliate calyx, the covers each engraved twice with a coat-of-arms within scrolling foliate mantling, the dishes each engraved twice with a crest, marked on bases and covers

The arms are those of Scrope with those of Long in pretence, for William Scrope Esq., of Castle Combe, Wiltshire (1772-1852) and his wife Emma, heiress of Charles Long Esq. (d.1783), whom he married in 1794. William was one of the best amateur artists of his time and exhibited six landscape paintings at the Royal Academy and nineteen at the British Institute between 1808 and 1851. He was was both Fellow of the Linnean Society and Director of the British Institute. He was also a keen deer stalker and salmon fisherman publishing books on both activities. He died at his house in Belgrave Square in 1852. (2)
