Lot Essay
Jean Sené, called 'le Pre' and born circa 1695, was the first of a famous dynasty of chair-makers and was established rue de Cléry. He became master joiner around 1709, but used his stamp only from 1743 when new status made it compulsory. Very few signed examples are known and he must have stopped his production shortly after that date. It is known, however, that he was still active in 1746 when he was listed as a creditor of Claude Heurtaut
