A LOUIS XIV GILTWOOD FAUTEUIL
The rectangular back and seat upholstered with a dark blue silk velvet loose cover with tassled border, the back with further gold and silver-thread stitched braiding, the shaped arms and scroll supports wrapped with acanthus leaves and strapwork raised decoration, on scroll legs with conforming decoration and joined by an x-shaped stretcher centred by an urn finial, losses to the gilding, front right leg repaired, re-railed, the upholstery 18th Century but possibly associated

Provenance
Sir Philip Sassoon, Bt., 25 Park Lane, London, W1, en suite with a pair of fauteuils, recorded in the Large Drawing Room in the 1939 inventory. The latter pair was sold by his sister, The Dowager Marchioness of Cholmondeley C.B.E., 12 Kensington Palace Gardens, London W8, Christie's house sale, 22 October 1979, lot 142.
