Of rectangular form, the top and sides inlaid with geometric stringing, the two doors opening to reveal fifteen long and short drawers, the central wide drawer with steel lockplate, later drop loop side handles, inlaid overall with stylised foliate sprays within geometric borders, on ebonised stand with arched frets to the angles, the cabinet early 18th century, the stand late 18th or early 19th century

Lot Essay

A table cabinet of similar design in the Victoria and Albert Museum is attributed to Sindh in Pakistan. The towns of Sindh were well known in the 16th and 17th centuries for the manufacture of inlaid boxes and cabinets of European inspiration but decorated according to local traditions. Large quantities of these wares were sent to Goa for the Portuguese market.
