The tambour case cast and pierced with a stylised vase of flowers and scroll band, turned finials, gilt dial with Roman numerals, inner 24-hour numerals, engraved strapwork centre, single steel hand, latched gilt movement with steel wheel trains, stackfreed, dumb-bell balance, countwheel strike on a bell, the backplate engraved with the initials HGB, restorations and replacements

Lot Essay

The back plate of this watch is inscribed with the initials HGB and the town mark of Strasbourg. It is possible that the initials are for Hans Gutbuch of Strasbourg who was the son-in-law of Issac Habrecht who constructed the clock for Strasbourg Cathedral.
