AN OAK PLANK CHEST, ENGLISH, EARLY 16TH CENTURY
with a moulded hinged lid and sides extending to feet, the front profusely carved with geometrical patterns incorporating two rosette filled whirls, previously with spandrels to the front lower corners, the lid original but turned around -- 47in. (119cm.) wide, 22½in. (57cm.) high, 16in. (40cm.) deep

A chest with similar roundels flanked by conforming tracery is in the Victoria & Albert Musuem (illustrated in Cescinsky & Gribble, Early Furniture & Woodwork, pub. Waverley 1922, p.32, Fig. 33)
