A fine late 19th-Century oxidised and lacquered-brass theodolite,
stamped on the horizontal plate ING. A. SALMOIRAGHI MILANO 6698, the 13½-inch (34.3cm.) long telescope with graduated bubble level, objective lens dust cover, rack and pinion focusing and spider's web fine adjustment and skew-gear adjustment to the eypiece, stamped 3, the telescope elsewhere stamped 25, the axis located on two tapering supports with over-mounted graduated bubble level with ebonised wooden handle, the 6-inch (15.2cm.) diameter vertical circle with silvered scale, graduated bubble level, twin verniers and magnifiers, and sprung clamps and tangent screw fine adjustment, the horizontal plate containing the silvered scale and with twin verniers and magnifiers and clamop and tangent screw fine adjustment, the mounting stamped 235, a second sighting tube mounted beneath also stamped 3 and 25, with tripod mounting, on a splayed tripod foot with clamp and three fine screw adjustable feet -- 15½in.
