A fine early 18th-Century French lacquered-brass graphometer,
signed on the limb N. Bion A Paris, the protractor scale graduated 0-180° in two directions, with gridlines numbered 6-60 in factors of six, the frame with foliate engraved crown and dolphin supports, the glazed compass with degrees around the circumference, wind rose, sixteen compass point initials and clamp (glass cracked, needle missing), the limb and alidade with four sights, the reverse with tripod or staff mounting with universal ball and socket joint and butterfly screw -- 14½in. (36.9cm.) wide
