A Meissen Kakiemon octagonal dish
Circa 1730, overglaze blue enamel crossed swords mark, wheel-engraved Japanese Palace Inventory mark N=37/w
Painted with the 'Hob in the Well' pattern, with two figures flanking a large cracked pot with water flowing from the base, one helping the child out, beside large stems of bamboo and a flowering plant with blue and turquoise birds in flight above, the border with iron-red and gilt flowerheads and turquoise and blue foliage, within a brown line rim (several cracks to the centre, one visible on underside, extensive crazing to glaze and some discolouration)
