A 15-BORE SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN MADE TO CONVERT TO AN OFFICER'S FUSIL

With tapering barrel engraved with a loop on top of the breech section and with foliage at the rear, silver fore-sight, engraved grooved tang, border engraved rounded lock engraved with a martial trophy on the tail and signed within a rococo cartouche (cock replaced), moulded figured walnut full stock (minor bruising) carved in relief with shells, full cast and chased silver mounts in the rococo taste including elaborately pierced side-plate, engraved butt-plate, butt-trap for a socket bayonet (missing), floral and foliate escutcheon engraved with owner's coat-of-arms and the name 'George Dawson', engraved trigger- guard with foliate finial, four silver ramrod-pipes (front pipe replaced), and later horn-tipped ramrod, the later forward section of the fore-end made to be detached, exposing the lug for the bayonet (iron parts with surface pitting), Birmingham proof marks
