A SCOTTISH BASKET-HILTED BROADSWORD, THE HILT PERHAPS BY WALTER ALLAN OF STIRLING
Second quarter of the 18th Century
With tapering blade with single fuller on each side of the forte stamped with a series of 'S's', iron guard of bars of rectangular and waved section involving incised panels (one damaged) pierced with circles and stylised hearts and an oval aperture for the reins, fluted pommel, and spirally fluted wire-bound leather-covered grip, the rear quillon marked 'WA' over 'S' (some surface pitting, wrist-guard missing)
