Lot Essay

Another canvas of the same composition was published by Rodolfo Pallucchini as by Pellegrini (Pospisil Duckett collection, Venice; 'Novited Appunti per Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini', Panthéon, XVIII, v. 1960, p. 246, illustrated p.249).

We are grateful to Professor George Knox, who on the basis of a photograph, has suggested on stylistic grounds that present lot is an early autograph work by Pellegrini, painted in Italy before his departure to England.
