An early Victorian mahogany longcase clock, circa 1840
The hood with swan neck cresting and outset spiral-twist and baluster columns, with conforming short inset columns flanking the tracery arch trunk door with ivory lozenge escutcheon, panel below, the plinth with canted angles and raised on bun feet, the 13½in. white painted dial decorated with flower spandrels, with rolling moon to the arch, Roman chapter ring with subsidiary seconds and date rings, rubbed signature, pierced brass hands, with false plate stamped S. WILKES to the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 94in. (239cm.) high
