A Charles II walnut and floral marquetry longcase clock
The hood with stepped top above a silk-backed fret panel, inset later plain columns flanking a door inlaid with floral marquetry, glazed side panels, the trunk door with moulded frame and D-end reserves of bird and floral marquetry, glass lenticle, the conforming plinth with later base, restorations and replacements to marquetry and case, the 10in. square bras dial signed along the lower edge Jno. Wise Londoni (sic) fecit, with winged cherub mask spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with narrow minute track, fleur-de-lys half hour markers, the matted centre with subsidiary silvered seconds ring (hand lacking), ringed winding holes and engraving around the date aperture, with later pierced steel hands, the four ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on bell; case associated to movement and dial, circa 1685 -- 84in. (213.5cm.) high
